Sierra Leone

The UNDP, in collaboration with the Government of Sierra Leone and civil society, will commemorate the International day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP) from 17-22 October, 2006.

This day will provide an opportunity to show solidarity with millions of men, women and children who continue to live in abject poverty, and to publicly acknowledge and encourage the work of organisations and individuals who are making significant contributions to the fight against poverty. It is also an occasion to raise public awareness and mobilize various actors to show their renewed commitment to the eradication of poverty and achieving the Millennium Development Goals.

STAND-UP is a global mobilization initiative to raise awareness about the eradication of poverty and the Millennium Development Goals, and to publicly demonstrate support from world leaders and Governments to achieve these goals.

In order to show global solidarity in the fight against poverty, it is proposed that all actors including civil society organizations, trade unions, community-based organizations, etc. should organize themselves to participate in a ‘STAND-UP’ event.
