Sierra Leone Police hold conference on its role during the 2007 ElectionsPress Release 30-08-2006 Freetown 28 August 2007 - The United Nations Integrated Office in Sierra Leone and the Sierra Leone Police will hold a two-day conference on the topic “The Role of the Sierra Leone Police in the 2007 Elections”. This event will take place at 9am, on 30 and 31 August 2006, at the Bintumani Hotel, Aberdeen, Freetown. The President Alhaji Dr. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah will declare the conference open with a key note address. All SLP Local Unit Commanders (LUCs) and the SLP Executive Management Board will be in attendance. Furthermore senior command staffs from the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Office of National Security, Prisons Service, National Fire Force, National Electoral Commission, and Political Party Registration Commission together with the United Nations representatives and other stakeholders are expected to attend and discuss the role of SLP in the forthcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections. The conference will feature presentations by legal specialists including the Chief Justice of the Republic of Sierra Leone and international election experts. It will prepare the SLP to provide a safe and secure environment for the elections within the National Security Architecture in a professional and non-partisan manner. The seminar is a joint initiative of the United Nations Police in Sierra Leone and the SLP and funded by the United Nations Development Programme. |
