Handing Over Ceremony of Vehicles by the Donor Community to the National Electoral Commission (NEC)Press Release 08-08-2006 The International Donor Community, represented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), will hand over a fleet of vehicles to the National Electoral Commission (NEC) as support to the upcoming preparations for the 2007 Constituency-based Parliamentary and Presidential Elections in Sierra Leone. The consignment consists of 19 vehicles, one per field office and four for the NEC headquarters in Freetown. The United Nations has organised a workshop on fleet management and maintenance for the NEC, to ensure the sustainable use of the vehicles for operational efficiency in the elections. Key partners Irish Aid, the Department for International Development (DFID) and the European Union are expected to each make a statement at the ceremony. The event will take place at the Miatta Conference Hall, Youyi Building at 11am Tuesday, 8 August 2006. The keynote speech will be delivered by the ERSG and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Victor Angelo. The vehicles will be test driven around the grounds of the Youyi Building, after which the fleet will drive in convoy across Freetown. Ends |
