Peacebuilding Initiative Website launched for Sierra Leone

Press Release  26-07-2007

Sierra Leone pilot portal, www.peacebuildinginitiative.org has just been launched.
The Sierra Leone pilot portal is the first phase of the Peacebuilding Initiative, seeking to test the demand for and utility of information management in peacebuilding

The portal provides a consolidated information platform on peacebuilding in Sierra Leone, with an emphasis on the four priority areas identified by the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC), in consultation with the Government of Sierra Leone.  With particular attention to the needs of the PBC and other international agencies, it aims to assist members of governmental and intergovernmental organizations, civil society organizations, and the scholarly community engaged in conflict management and post-conflict peacebuilding. The Peacebuilding Initiative is a project of HPCR International (aisbl), in cooperation with the Program on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research (HPCR) at Harvard University. The project benefits from the generous support of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The Sierra Leone pilot portal was formally launched on 18 July at the UN headquarters in New York. The launch event was attended by over 70 representatives from various UN departments, missions, agencies and the NGO community.

The pilot will continue to develop over the coming months, responding to feedback from focus groups and evaluation. The next phase will place greater emphasis on interactive components such as e-conferences and discussion boards to enhance communication with and perspectives from colleagues in Sierra Leone.
