Press Release 18-01-2007

Freetown, Sierra Leone -- In a handing-over ceremony on Thursday, 18 January the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) donated a Toyota Landcruiser worth US$30,000 to the Ministry of Information. The vehicle was given in support of the National Communications Strategy (NCS) Project, which is part of the Ministry of Information.

At the ceremony which took place at its headquarters in Freetown, UNDP Governance Specialist, Edward Kamara, outlined the support of his organisation which he said was ‘to serve the project, create a vibrant structure for the different kinds of communication based on the demand for national news and information, in and outside the country. This in turn will give national journalists what they have always desired, a structure by which information is regularly and effectively disseminated from each ministry and district in Sierra Leone. The objective of the NCS Project is to create a consistent and sustainable cycle of information dissemination that generates news on both national and international scenes’.

To receive the vehicle on behalf of the NCS Project, the Chief National Technical Consultant, Kalilu Totangi, reaffirmed their determination to improve information dissemination on the successes of Sierra Leone to the national and international community. He further thanked the UNDP for their support to the Project.
