National Democratic Institute (NDI), organized a meeting in Kono District on Land Reforms

On 20 January, the National Democratic Institute (NDI), with the support from UNDP, organized a meeting in Kono district on land reforms. The meeting was attended by members of parliament, Government officials and representatives of civil society organizations.

Government officials acknowledged at the meeting the need for updated cartographical maps and a review of the roles and responsibilities of various ministries in land and mineral rights matters. Some speakers said that the right to own land was not fully guaranteed under the law and current procedures for issuance of mining licenses needed to be reviewed. A similar meeting was held in Kailahun district during the week.
