Inclusive Growth

Sustainable rapid economic growth is necessary for poverty reduction. To achieve a significant impact on poverty reduction, economic growth should also be sufficiently inclusive through the participation of a wide spectrum of citizens across all key productive sectors of the economy. Meaningful growth, in terms of human development, should therefore create job opportunities for all and particularly for unemployed youth and women whose labor participation rate is generally low in developing countries such as Sierra Leone. Through its contribution to the creation of sustainable livelihoods and greater incomes for marginalized members of society, inclusive growth is also essential for the achievement of the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our Goals

UNDP has been supporting the economic recovery of Sierra Leone after the end of the war and with the country now working towards the socio-economic transformation in a bid to realize its long-term vision of being a Middle- Income Country within the next 25 years and a net lender within 50 years, UNDP will continue to support Sierra Leone’s development agenda by promoting inclusive growth strategies that make real improvements in people’s lives, opening up their choices and opportunities. more
