Sep 15, 2015

Venue: Mary Kinsley Auditorium, Fourah Bay College, Freetown. Make a date with us: Monday 28 September, 2015.

United Nations Development Programme in Sierra Leone will join the global community to observe the Social Good Summit (SGS). Innovation for Social Good is a much-needed ingredient in our post-Ebola Recovery drive along with environment protection and youth empowerment. Our country relies on young people with innovative ideas to provide solutions for not only post-Ebola recovery but also to address challenges facing Sierra Leone including climate, ending poverty, employment and sustainable development in general. This year’s Social Good Summit (SGS) in Sierra Leone is a one-day meet-up to discuss how new technology and innovation for social good initiatives around the country.

This is not just happening in Sierra Leone, global citizens around the world are also meeting and unite to unlock the potential of technology to make the world a better place. The world will adopt the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on September 24, 2015, which will replace the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). SDGs are a new set of targets to achieve three extraordinary things in the next 15 years: End extreme poverty. Fight inequality & injustice. Fix climate change.

To reach these Global Goals by #2030, we need these key ingredients: technology and innovation; engaged and active communities; competent and accountable leaders. Sierra Leone should tap into the power of innovation by young people to achieve SDGs, post-Ebola recovery, climate change, and youth empowerment, thus the local theme: “Transforming Our Salone through innovation for post-Ebola recovery and sustainable development”.
