Integrated Framework Tourism Project

Project Background

The Integrated Framework Tourism project aims to revitalize the tourism sector in Sierra Leone.

In 2010, the project will focus on a continuation of the development of Sierra Leone National Tourist Board marketing plan and, the completion of the second Phase of the Tour Guide Training Programme, which is carried out in collaboration with the Milton Margai College of Education, the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the Tourist Board.

2010 will also see some activities following the validation of the Tourism Strategic Action Plan, which took place in 2009.

The project started in February 2008 as part of the Integrated Framework Window II funds with the UNDP Geneva acting as Trust Fund Manager.

Project Objectives

To revitalize the tourism sector in Sierra Leone as part of the Government of Sierra Leone’s Diagnostic Trade Integration Study (DTIS) Action Matrix objectives.

Project Outcome

  • Attendance of key national tourism stakeholders at International Trade Fairs.

  • Design and production of tourism promotion material.

  • Establishment of a Tourist Board information desk at Lungi airport.

  • Improve the operational capacity of the Sierra Leone National Tourist Board.

  • Facilitate the design and validation of a Sector Strategic Action Plan.

  • Broad based sensitization of sectoral issues.
